What to Bring for a Model Photoshoot – Top 8 Items You Need!

Throughout my modeling career, I have been constantly asked for my advice on what is best to have with you during a photoshoot.

Would you be surprised that professional models should always have a prepared “emergency bag” for unexpected photoshoots?

A model’s life is unpredictable, and agencies can send you to the photoshoot at the any moment.

I’m not saying you need to prepare a bag like this unless you are professional model, but, I still recommend you look at this short but incredibly helpful list!

1. Snacks, Snacks and Again Snacks!

The media lies about the fact that professional models are always starving!

Snacks are important during the photoshoot!

Why?

Because you definitely didn’t come to the photo shoot with a stomach full of food!

Along with this, you will pose in front of the camera; jumping, running, and flexing your stomach for hours!

When you are hungry, your face looks angry and tired!

Did you just spend hours on makeup and hairstyle for this result?!

I am sure you didn’t!

This is why it’s important to have a little bit of food with you!

But don’t over-try!

My suggestion of snacks to bring with you to a photoshoot are:

  • Granola Bars
  • Cookies
  • Bananas
  • Water
  • Protein Shakes
  • Snacks like this

Honestly, you can bring anything that:

  • Will not bother your stomach
  • Is rich in nutrition
  • Will not mess up your make up
  • Will not get stuck in your teeth
  • Will not leave dirty drops on your clothes

Food is very important to have with you while you are doing a photo shoot, these are my suggestions of which foods are best to bring with you.

Snack smart!

2. Hygiene Above Everything!

Now we will talk about most important part – hygiene!

Always carry with you wipes!

Seriously, you will always need them!

According to my experience, I would recommend you drop a razor into your purse!

I know that a lot of girls are now reading this sentence pretty skeptical, but you will not believe how often I have seen even professional models who weren’t able to lift their arms up or show their legs because of this unpleasant accident!

Under professional light, a camera can see everything!

Do not let this moment of weakness to take you over!

Fight to look perfect in any condition!

Along with this, I suggest you don’t forget as well:

  • Hair Brush
  • Eye Drops
  • Travel Size Toothpaste
  • Baby Oil (even if you aren’t planning a bikini photoshoot, just apply it to your arms and legs!)
  • Facial Sheets (if you have oily skin)
  • Deodorant (preferably with a plain smell)
  • One Pair of Plain Tights

3. What About Some Beauty Products?

checklist for photo shoot supplies

I know that you are planning multiple looks for the photoshoot, so in this case you should always do your makeup with a bright color lipstick and apply the darkest color on top once you are ready to change your look!

However, I’m recommending you to always use mate lipsticks for photoshoots and apply the darkest color on top.

If you are using traditional lipstick, simply wipe it off each time and reapply new colors!

As well, I’m also recommending you bring:

  • Powder
  • Highlighter
  • Lip Gloss
  • Hair Spray
  • Glue for Fake Eye Lashes (if you are using them)

4. Clothes and Attributes! A LOT OF THEM!

You never know which mood you will have at any moment, so take everything you possibly can!

I’m personally carrying with me almost a full travel suitcase to every photoshoot!

Feather coat? – Sure!

Weeding dress? – Of course!

Old grandmother’s radio? -Take two!

Of course, not literally.

But it is better to have everything with you in your bag, than worry your whole session about how you were able to do better!

5. A Women’s Secret Weapon: AKA Underwear!

We aren’t talking about beautiful ones which you might have prepared for photos!

We are talking about the ones which we will wear under our looks.

Do not waste your whole time and work session because of unsuitable lingerie!

Wear only skin color ones, and which makes your body looks great (shape wear, push-up etc.)!

If you don’t have skin color underwear, bring with you 2 sets (black and white).

However, I am highly recommending you buy one pair of skin color underwear!

There are not many products which you will never regret buying – these are one of them!

6. Shoes!

Here I don’t think I need many words, just remember to wear comfortable shoes while you are reaching the studio and switch them to the fresh and clean pair which you will wear during your photoshoot.

Respect the photographer you are working with and keep his studio and paper backgrounds clean!

My recommendation is also to bring with you a pair of slippers! (You will thank me later.)

7. Warm as a Bear Hug! Bring with You a Blanket!

Photo studios are usually chilly inside.

While the photographer will be busy of fixing lighting and technical issues, or shooting other models, you have a whole chance to snuggle into a warm blanket!

This idea came from my sister, who was thinking about me taking bikini and underwear photoshoots in such a cold room that she just bought for me a small and easy to carry blanket! (Thank You, Lena!)

8. Hair Ties and Pins!

Take all of them!

Seriously, re-check your bag at least 3 times and make sure that you didn’t forget them!

As well you can take any accessories with you, including:

  • Hats
  • Hair Bands
  • Crowns
  • Etc..
